28/08/2010: 'United pluck the Roosters! ' - In a lively elimination semi-final at Luddenham Oval, the home side advanced to fight another day after defeating Roosters 3-2. Luddenham coach, Andrew Montgomery was beaming after the game and remembering that Roosters had beaten his side twice during the regular season, insisted that - "it was just desire that got us over the line" - and that they did with some cracking goals! .. Wellington Phoenix 2 - Central Coast 0 ' Dire Display Marks Milestone Result' - What started off as a promising spectacle ran out of fizz after twenty minutes and, but for a couple of incidents thereafter, including one which deserved to grace a game far, far, far better in quality than this dire display, left true football fans waiting on the final whistle long before the watch on referee Peter O'Leary gave him reason to blow it .. 12/08/2010: Slovenia christened their new stadium in Ljubljana with a comfortable 2-0 win over fellow World Cup side Australia prior to their European Cup campaign. A rebuilding Australia, with new coach Holger Osieck looking on, were very flat. Slovenia's wastefulness in front of goal prevented a larger margin - with Zlatko Dedic finally breaking the deadlock in the 78th minute with a powerfully taken header. Zlatan Ljubijankic then sealed the result in the first minute of stoppage time with a strike from outside the area that was too good for substitute goalkeeper Adam Federici ... 11/08/2010: The new Qantas Socceroos Head Coach will be Holger Osieck. Frank Lowy announced the appointment in Ljubljana this afternoon prior to Thursday morning's fixture against Slovenia at the new Sportni Park stadium. After two Dutchmen, Holger Osieck (aged 62) is a German born football coach. He most recently managed J-League club Urawa Red Diamonds in 2008, and served as an assistant coach of Germany when they won the 1990 World Cup. He also has had two spells in Turkish club football and led Canada to win the 2000 CONCACAF Gold Cup, plus served on FIFA’s Technical Study Group Committee at the 2010 WC. More details ...
