Melbourne Victory ended their 2009 ACL campiagn with a 2-3 loss in South Korea to Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma. It was a game of two halves with Melbourne hardly competitive in the first half but scoring just after the break to make a real game of it in he second half.

Namkung Do scored one goal and had a hand in two others as the striker inspired Seongnam Ilhwa to a 3-2 win in the final AFC Champions League Group F clash at Tancheon Sports Stadium.

Namkung's good work led to Cheon Kwang-jin's opener after 28 minutes with a fine finish. Melbourne substitute Mate Dugandzic however levelled immediately after the break, when he made a run from deep and wrong-footed 'keeper Jung Sung-ryong.

Namkung put Seongnam back in front with 16 minutes to go but Tom Pondeljak drew Victory level a second time four minutes later with a low drive from the edge of the box.

However, Namkung flicked on keeper Jung Sung-ryong's long kick and Cho Jae-chul lobbed Mitchell Langerak to net the winner with seven minutes left.

Seongnam Ilhwa coach Shin Tae-young was pleased to see his side come through the AFC Champions League group stage in impressive fashion as a 3-2 win over Melbourne Victory at Tancheon Sports Stadium saw the Koreans record their fifth triumph in six games.

Namkung Do proved to be the Australians' nemesis with the striker scoring one goal and having a hand in two more to see the hosts home after substitute Mate Dugandzic and Tom Pondeljak had twice hauled Melbourne level.

After the Koreans comfortably topped Group E to set up a last 16 clash Japan’s Gamba Osaka, Shin remarked: “I am very happy that we have won five out of six games in the group stage. We were in a tough group and came through very well. “This is my first AFC Champions League campaign as a coach but I have had a lot of help from the players.”

Melbourne Victory coach Ernie Merrick paid tribute to the group leaders after watching his side finish bottom of Group E with just four points from six games. “Both teams played an attacking game but Seongnam were just a little bit better and were able to get the win,” he said. “We could see why Seongnam have won the group. They moved the ball around very quickly in the middle and make lots of goal-scoring opportunities. “But we had chances and after his goal, Mate Dugandzic had a one-on-one chance with the goalkeeper.”
