Blacktown City FC clinched the 2010 NSW Premier League Championship with a very hard fought 1-0 victory over Premiers Bonnyrigg White Eagles at Parramatta Stadium in front of about 2,000 fairly noisy fans from both clubs on Sunday afternoon

The Demons went into the game with 'the wood' over their rivals, as they had triumphed 4-0 only a few weeks before in the finals series, and with the trophy for their Grade 20 team firm in hand, so it was no surprise that they came out of the blocks well. In the 2nd minute they got forward down the left and the ball from Joel Chianese found Tolgey Ozbay but he couldn't control it to put a shot on target.

In the 24th minute Blacktown again threatened with Travis Major sending a free-kick to Tyler Simpson who shot strongly but it was parried by veteran 'keeper Phil Zabaks in the Eagles goal. Simpson then send another shot onto the upright, and the excellent chance to open the scoring was missed.

The Demons were dominating play and should really have penetrated more as they probed Bonnyrigg's somewhat static backline. Other than good work by Daniel Severino the Premiers first chance came in the 22nd minute when from a free-kick 35m out, Demons custodian Brody Crane had to be at his best to hold under pressure from big centre back Graeme Forbes.

A great play by Blacktown in the 30th minute when Tolgay Ozbey made a forceful run into the danger zone with Paul Cotte in very close atendance, perhaps only just legally, and the ball was taken by the keeper before Ozbey could 'pull the trigger'.

Bonnyrigg had a good chance only one minute later when Forbes hit a strong header to the left side of the goal with Crane standing right-side, but a quick thinking Ante Deur moved to head it clear. Just before the break Ozbey hit a free-kick along the ground through the pack and just missed the left post.

The game had died a bit at the end of the first half but Bonnyrigg came at Blacktown in the second half for the first 20 minutes or so, without much to show for it, other than Jamie McMaster giving Brody Crane some pause when he lobbed a shot that decended alarmingly onto the net just outside the crossbar.

In the 63rd minute Tolgay Ozbey got up on the left weaving past a couple of potential defenders, and cut the ball inside to Travis Major who whose snap shot was parried by a diving Phil Zabacs.

At 76 minutes Major sent a great through-ball, splitting the defence and playing Ante Deur onto goal. Before he could attempt a strike however the surging midfielder was bundled over by Graeme Forbes who shown a red card for his efforts. Tolgay Ozbey stepped up to take it, and he drove his penalty-kick hard and into the net to give Blacktown City the lead they had sought for so long.

Bonnyrigg had a real chance in the 88th minute when Wade Oostendorp got his head to Daniel Severino's free-kick. Alas under pressure from his marker he couldn't get a clean header on-target, going just wide of upright.

Paul Cotte tried manfully to lift his team back into it but as the three minutes extra time ran out and referee Kris Griffiths Jones pointed to the centre, the Blacktown fans erupted and their players gathered to applaud them and be applauded. Blacktown City had come back from setbacks during the season to be trophy holding Champions for 2010.
