NSW Super League 2010
BOTN Feature Game Bossy dominate Spirit NSW Super League (Leo Papanicolaou 32') lost to FC Bossy Liverpool 3 (Daniel Wilson 42', Alex Asanovic 50', Domenic Cutri 86') ![]() (A rugged match with 8 yellow cards and no love lost)
FC Bossy Liverpool continued their solid start to the season with a well-deserved away win 3-1 at Spirit FC's Christie Park at Marsfield this evening. Spirit struck in the first half but Bossy dominated the second half, never allowing Spirit to build any rythm in attack.
Much of the first half was play muted by counter play, with neither team able to get on top or get any fluid play going. The first real chance came in the 17th minute when Bossy's Sasha Dreca got a ball inside to Alex Asinovic, but Spirit 'keeper Murray nelson was out to cover - and a flag of off-side added to the dismay.
Spirit's Akwai Agyei tried from range but the shot was blocked, and then in the 23rd minute the second of two corners was curled from the right by Jamie Garside - but it dipped in the breeze onto the top of the net.
Bossy were also kept largely out of range, with Dreca just getting close enough in the 29th minute to draw an easy take from Nelson.
A sensation in the 32nd minute as Leon Papanicolaou looked up in midfield and realising that there was nothing on, and that Bossy 'keeper Kosmatos was slightly off his line, turned and swung a shot from 35m that beat the 'keeper and rebounded down off the crossbar. The Assistant referee flagged for the goal and the referee consulted and pointed to the spot. 1-0
Spirit had little time to celebrate as Daniel Wilson found space down the right and hit a firm angled shot that beat Nelson and nestled in the left side of the goal in the 42nd minute. 1-1
Bossy finished the half stronger, and into the second. Within five minutes of the re-start Asanovic dribbled through the Spirit defence and drew Nelson before slotting it inside the left upright. 1-2
Spirit tried to lift, and the best chance came in the 61st minute when Papanicolaou had the ball bravely taken off his feet by Bossy 'keeper Kosmatos.
The game got testy, and yellow cards began to flow. It didn't change the domination by Bossy however, and it was no surprise when in the 86th minute that substitute Ford got up on the right and cut back a forceful ball inside that was met by untracked substitute Domenic Cutri who beat Spirit custodian Nelson. 1-3 it ended.
